MATTHEWS GALLERY LAUNCHES FOLIO WORKS ON PAPER SHOW
ArtFeast Grand Opening with showcase innovative artwork at $500 and under.
Santa Fe, NM—The annual Edible Art Tour offers an array of delicious appetizers from Santa Fe's best restaurants, but its main course is a colorful feast for the eyes. This year, the February 21st ArtSmart charity walk will set the stage for the grand opening of FOLIO, a Matthews Gallery exhibition of unframed works on paper for $500 or less. Buy tickets to the Edible Art Tour and come see the new artwork from 5-8 pm.
FOLIO will be an ongoing, rolling exhibition featuring paintings and prints by various artists in the gallery's stable. Local artists Jamie Chase and Kate Rivers both experimented with new subject matter for the opening. Chase, known for his paintings of female nudes, will debut a series of abstract works. Rivers usually creates abstract collages from found objects, but will present figurative monotypes in FOLIO.
"Working on paper allows artists to innovative in a way that they can't with more expensive materials," says gallery owner Lawrence Matthews, who will also show several of his prints and paintings in the exhibition. "Gauguin's experimental prints are considered even more revolutionary than his paintings. FOLIO is about unleashing wild, spontaneous creativity."
In addition to daring art, Matthews Gallery's Edible Art Tour stop will offer bold flavors from Museum Hill Cafe. Located in Milner Plaza among the world-class museums of Museum Hill, the restaurant offers American, French and Southwest-inspired cuisine, a fine selection of wine and beer, and beautiful views of the area. For Matthews Gallery's Edible Art Tour stop, Museum Hill Cafe will serve up its signature corn pudding.
Come try delicious food at the Edible Art Tour and view incredible art in FOLIO on Friday, February 21 from 5-8 pm. Tickets are available on the ArtSmart website.
